In the midst of the holiday photo rush, I wanted to take a quick break and talk ice skating!
Now that both my kids are rink rats, the ice rink has become like a second home to my family. I don't mind at all, having spent plenty of time on the frozen pond growing up, and even more time at the rink in my 30s.
We're at the Klick-Lewis Arena in Palmyra a lot—that's where Kai is learning to skate. If you know anyone who wants to take those first steps on the ice at a clean, bright rink, I highly recommend the Klick-Lewis Arena (formerly On the Ice), near the Paramount Sports Complex. Their Wednesday learn-to-skate classes in particular are quiet and there's plenty of ice to work on your moves!
Carly, who has been a dedicated skater since she turned three, takes the ice on a slightly larger sheet: her practices with the Hershey Figure Skating Club are usually at the GIANT Center or Hersheypark Arena.
Which brings me to another plug—the Hershey Figure Skating Club is celebrating its 75th anniversary with a pair of ice shows next weekend. The club will skate through its 75-year history on Saturday, December 12 at 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 13 at 2:00 p.m. And bonus—both shows also feature international skating star Todd Eldredge! Both shows are on the Hersheypark Arena ice, and advance tickets are $10 at the GIANT Center Box Office (717-534-3911).
