The grand old Hershey Theatre is celebrating its 75th birthday this weekend with a full schedule of events.
This evening, a gala event featuring Bill Dayton's Big Band kicks off the weekend's festivities. Plenty of retro details will entertain ticketed guests—a speakeasy cabaret, costumed performers, a signature drink and a glamorous red carpet entrance. If you have space on your dance card for tonight, contact the Hershey Theatre box office at 717-534-3405 for tickets.
Comedian Bob Newhart will bring his special brand of dry wit to the theater on Saturday, September 6 at 6:00 p.m. For tickets, contact the Hershey Theatre box office at 717-534-3405.
On Sunday, September 7, the theater will go back to its roots, showing the 1933 classic film "42nd Street" as well as a vintage newsreel. Special prizes and surprises await the audience on this day, which will begin at 1 p.m. with a public tour, followed by a concert on the Theatre's four-manual Aeolian-Skinner organ with Hans Gartner at 1:30 p.m. The films are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. This event will be free, but patrons must have tickets (again, available by calling the box office at 534-3405).
