It's a Quiet Election Day in Hershey

No lines and no discernible campaign volunteers at the two polling places I saw today. It was nice to walk right in and vote... but I wonder where all those voters are.

Menu For Hope

Each year for the past three years, Pim Techamuanvivit, an internationally revered food blogger, has coordinated a fundraising effort to help those for whom finding food is more than an indulgence -- it's a matter of life and death. Menu For Hope raised more than $60,000 last year for the U.N.'s World Food Programme; this year, funds raised will be used by the WFP to directly help the school lunch program in Lesotho, Africa.

Pim's "Menu For Hope" is headquartered at her blog, Chez Pim, but it is truly global in scope. Hundreds of food bloggers have donated special prize packages from cookbooks to gourmet fare to amazing dining experiences for the fourth annual Menu For Hope -- and all it takes to win is a $10 donation and a bit of luck! Go here for links to all the prizes...and keep checking back during the campaign (December 10-21), since prizes have historically been added along the way.

Microeconomics

While the Hershey Company's boardroom shake-up is the talk of the town and analysts are making predictions about the future, the microeconomic news for our local candymaker is much better.

In our house, there's a good supply of Hershey's Limited Edition holiday candy now. The Candy Cane Hugs are back, we've stocked up on Limited Edition Mint Kisses (note: not the Mint Truffle Kisses, which are completely inferior) and the yummy Mint Miniatures Assortment is in the cupboard waiting for me to crack and have the first little Mint White Creme of the season.

And, I'm happy to report, my favorite York Mints are now available in a specially marked holiday tin. Can you say "stocking stuffer"? I knew that you could.

So godspeed, Hershey Company. May you recover from this latest chaotic moment and survive to provide many more limited edition minty offerings in the future!
